Mission Statement: It is my goal to contribute to the evolution of human consciousness through
these services in the here and/or the hereafter. -Mary Jo

Consulting for individuals, couples, families and groups

Offering educational services

Facilitating groups

Making available books

I believe that human beings are Divine Energy's vehicles of evolving consciousness. Humanity is
Nature's grandest experiment, and our choices determine the outcome. Our choice is for human
consciousness to find and follow the guidance of its Inner Greater Self. To learn from It, to embrace
itself in wholeness: the conscious and the unconscious; the light and the dark; the pleasant and the
painful. Through such an embrace we hope to evolve in love, peace, and joy, and to prepare
ourselves for moving into our next more spiritual dimension.

*Since I have changed from counseling to consulting, I have been trying to change the wording on my web-site. For some mysterious cyberspace reasons, these corrections will not always take. I beg your indulgence until we can finally make the necessary corrections. Wherever in these pages, you still find the words counselor or counseling, please just change them to consultant and consulting. Thank you.

Consultation for individuals, couples, families, and groups

Consulting is an excellent support for our evolution in consciousness. To best move from life in the physical body into whatever mysteries the dimension after death holds for us, we must have developed a consciousness open to humbly serving and loving what is greater than itself.

The stages of this evolutionary growth are:

  1) The development of a stable ego-identity capable of making its way in this world on earth

  2) Healing childhood wounds in support of this stabilizing

  3) The acknowledgment, acceptance, and integration of unconscious and rejected parts of ourselves

  4) The disciplining of our wayward minds

  5) The growth in loving kindness and compassion for all beings

  6) The surrender of ego aggrandizement in the service to our higher power.

Consulting may guide and support you through whichever stage you are in. When we are in the first three stages we find ourselves still upset by many "problems." We may not have found our career niche. Our relationships with other people may be troubled by misunderstandings, rivalries, and hostilities. We may find ourselves afflicted with depression, anxieties, and resentments.

As we heal the underlying wounds causing these problems, we are better able to open our minds and hearts to evolve in the humility, compassion, and surrender of the last three steps.

In her practice of therapy, Mary Jo guides clients in:

  stabilizing ego,

  healing childhood wounds,

  growing in self-acceptance,

  bettering relationships,

  working through depression and anxiety,

  growing in compassion,

and realizing connection with their Higher Power.

She helps you find your stuck places and move through them into your next developmental stage.

Mary Jo's fee for consultling is $60 an hour. Because she has no secretarial help, Mary Jo does not process insurance claims, so she asks that you pay in full at the time of service.

(Because her experience is not strong in the following areas, Mary Jo prefers not to work with cases involving legal issues such as divorce, child custody, adoption, insurance claims, etc. Check your phone book for appropriate agencies.)

You are invited to join a newly forming Vipassana Meditation group

How structured? Although we will always stay open to the requests and needs of the group, a possible use of our 60 minutes could generally and approximately take this form:

10 min. -- questions and comments regarding last weeks' practice

10 min. -- instruction about next practice

20 min. -- meditation practice; in the beginning, we may "lead" the first 5-10 minutes; as members become more used to the work, the entire 20 min. may be devoted to silent meditation20 min. -- this final third of the hour may be spent asking questions or commenting on meditation experiences

Where? In the office of Mary Jo Myers, Ph.D., 7467 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, 43068 (See map-quest or my web site --www.maryjomyers.org-- for directions)

If your back is strong and your knees flexible and you care to sit on the floor, you may bring your zafu or bench or just use my carpet or pillows. Otherwise, you are welcome to sit in chairs provided.

When? Every other Thursday night from 7:30-8:30. I will get back to you about the exact date.

Your facilitator: Mary Jo has been studying and practicing various forms of meditation for 52 years now.

-First, as a Roman Catholic nun, she learned the Ignation Method.

-After leaving the convent, she worked with a Tibetan Buddhist group practicing visualization and mantra chanting as well as mindfulness

-To deepen her daily mindfulness practice she had studied and worked with the teachings of a number of Vipassana (Insight) teachers including Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, Pema Chodron, and Dipa Ma.

Fee: My usual facilitator's fee is $60 an hour, a price shared by all participants.

Commitment: It has been my experience in working with groups that commitments are best honored when non-refundable money has been paid up front for a number of sessions, usually 4 or 5. At our first meeting we can make the decision about how many sessions you wish to commit to and calculate from your number how much each member would pay.

•For example, if you choose to commit for four weeks at $60 a week, the full cost would be $240 divided by however many members the group has. If there are six, for example, each member would owe only $40 for all four weeks. We would ask for payment at the first meeting.

•Once the four or five weeks is completed, you will be given the option of re-contracting.

At the end of each meeting we will together decide the date for our next meeting. If one or more people cannot make the usual time, we shall do our best to re-schedule in order to accommodate them.

To register: E-mail me at mjmyers(at)insight(dot)rr(dot)com or call 614-759-0111 and let me know that you are interested in joining such a group. If you are calling, be sure to leave your phone number. I will get back to you about our starting date.If you e-mail, I'll correspond with you through that medium.

If you would like to come but this time frame does not work for you, e-mail or call and give me your other preferences. Should other people come forward looking for the same time, it may be possible to start another group. I will let you know if this is the case.
